As mentioned in "Birth of an Admin", the very next Bolt male to test was a non-match. Unlike most DNA Surname Projects, we had reason to expect a "non-paternal event" (NPE) in this case. Not because he's on the same line as the Physicist, but because the newly found bible record gave us the clue. This latest Bolt cousin is a descendant of Benjamin, who turns out to be a nephew of Robert Jr. and Abraham.
The bible record lists Benjamin Bolt as "son of Sarah Bolt." She gave birth to him when she was 15. Both Benjamin descendants that we currently have in the project have upgraded to 37-markers as we await for the clue as to who may have fathered Benjamin.
Things with the Bolt DNA Project were quiet until May 2004, when I was contacted by a descendant of John Bolt Sr. John Sr. is the oldest son of Robert Sr., and appears in early Virginia records, but John did not immigrate to SC, so many of his descendants still reside in Virginia today.
After corresponding for a few e-mails, the John descendant decides to take the test. Before his results came in, he happened to visit my state and so I met him, and then saw him again at the Bolt Reunion.
You needed to know that I've met him twice and got to know him well enough, before you read what I did, and think that I'm horribly nervy to have done such a thing...
He had mentioned on more than one occasion that he had a half sister given up for adoption that he was trying to find, but was at a dead-end. His mother had never told him about the sister until she was on her deathbed, and she told him so he could find her.
One day, he sent me the link for Linda Hammer's "Touched by Adoption" DNA registry because he knew that I would be interested because it had to do with DNA.
Normally, I try not to meddle in other's lives, especially with a 6th cousin that I've only met twice...BUT...shortly thereafter, I was talking to him on the phone and this is exactly what I said, "If you don't mind me butting into your life, tell me your sister's name and everything you know about her."
He obviously didn't mind me "butting in" because he told me.
Using two free internet sites, I located her in a matter of minutes.
I e-mailed all of the info to him, and told him to call me back if it was her.
I had to wait what seemed like an ETERNITY for him to call (which
I took as a good sign) because it WAS her!!!!
One of her adoptive parents was deceased and the other had senility, so she was absolutely thrilled to have her family grow by leaps and bounds from the phone call.
The info and links that I used are compiled on the following ISOGG page:
